Light, Duncan (2007) “The Status of Vlad Tepes in Communist Romania: A Reassessment,” Journal of Dracula Studies: Vol. 9 , Article 2.

This article reassesses Vlad Tepes’s status in communist Romania, specifically, his exaggerated or simplified achievements. The author considers the status Vlad Tepes had in Romania’s history while also considering Vlad Tepes’ political influence on 20th century Romania. Romania’s communist regime unwillingly manipulated the country’s history against the Soviet Union. Therefore Vlad Tepes’s status dropped during the 1970s but rose after the collapse of the Soviet Union. After eliminating the false information, this article claims the real status of Vlad Tepes was held in high esteem but as a secondary hero who contributed enough to become a famous figure. I will use this claim to support my research on revealing the true Vlad Tepes and his connections to Stoker’s Dracula.
